We are here! It took 2 long days (23 hours) but Jerry and I made it here to the Richmond Area. It is beautiful! Did you know that Virginia likes to be called a Commonwealth and not a state. not sure what that is all about but I will get to the bottom of it!
I love all the history that is here. We went to look a the downtown area on Monday, and learned that at some point in the 1800's Robert E. Lee had tried to burn down Richmond because it was the capital city of the confederacy. All the old buildings that are made of brick are all black and charred. There is a a book called Richmond Burning that tells the whole story. I am starting to read it.
I feel like I should have paid a little more attention in history class because I feel like a lot the US history I should know about this place I don't. I need to get edjumacated!!! I look forward to learning more about this area. I will keep you all updated with pictures of the kids and the area.
We closed on our house today so that was something pretty exciting! Our house backs up to a creek, so we need to be concerned about little buggies like ticks and poison oak and poison ivy. Yikes! Lots of work so little time!
I look forward to showing you pictures of the area. Miss y'all!!!!!!

I miss you all tremendously! You better update us with pictures of the boys!! oh yeah...you and Jerry too!
I grew up in Pennsyvania, and it is a commonwealth. I took a whole year of PA history in HS, but I can't remember. I'll ask my family. Give me a little grace...my 20 year class reunion is this year and I haven't lived in PA for 16 years.
Enjoy your history books!!!
Congrats on closing on your house!
Your house over here still sits empty. I'll keep you posted!
I've found the answer: go to www.magazineusa.com/lv2/politics/i_commonwealth.asp
There are four commonwealth states: PA, VA, MA, and KY. Basically it is semantics...commonwealth and state, for the Constitution's sake are pretty much the same. That link will go into greater detail and give you enough info to get you started in 5 minutes. I believe it also has to do with the division within the county..townships, villages, etc.
The link is supposed to end with asp. For some reason it got cut off.
I'm really happy for you guys. Take care and God bless.
